About Us

Nutmeg Sports Camps is a Connecticut based program of primarily lacrosse development and competition for boys and girls through high school age.  Its programs are based on the careful attainment of the highest possible skills for each player using a development model of skill attainment. 

As the with development of any complex set of skills, there are fundamental skills that are the basis for other skills which in turn are requisite for the next set of skills and so on.  The more fully each set of skills is achieved the more readily and fully the subsequent skills can be developed.  At Nutmeg Sports Camps we look at long term skill development and ensure that each set of skills is developed and mastered before moving on.  The rush to competitive play often comes at the expense of the attainment of important skills, and as a result players move to high school and college level lacrosse with serious deficiencies in their games. We make sure that each player is fully prepared at each level. 

Besides a well developed curriculum as the basis for instruction, we believe that the essential ingredient at every level is top quality instruction from technically skilled coaches who bring outstanding people skills.  The ability to understand the skills and to be able to teach them to others are the key ingredients we seek in our coaching staff.  Further, we believe that all age and skill levels required the best coaching available.  For this reason, the coaches of our youngest and newest players are no less qualified or skilled than those of our elite teams. 

Finally, we believe in fun and competition.  We believe that few activities are fully engaged that are not inherently fun, and this is especially true for sports.  Our sessions are planned at each developmental level to be fast paced, interesting, challenging and most of all - fun. Competition is the essential element which separates sports from many activities. Handled carefully, it brings a sense of achievement, understanding of loss, sportsmanship, team play and self-esteem.  We manage our competitive challenges from the youngest scrimmage to the positioning of our elite teams with an eye to the achievable challenge.

At the final game of a player's Nutmeg career our goal is a young adult with outstanding technical skills, a strong team concept, a good sense of self-esteem, and a healthy sense of challenge.
