Sports experts say that it takes thousands of
repetitions of a movement correctly to make it a skill.
The key to this is learning each step correctly and in
sequence so that skills are developed at a high level. It takes much longer to "unlearn" a behavior than it does to
learn and practice it correctly from the start.
Believing this, Nutmeg is committed to
having the best coaches at each level. Many programs
assign the weakest coaches to the youngest and newest
players and better coaches to the top teams. We believe that
it is at least equally important to have top coaches at the
entry level as it is at the elite level. For this
reason we choose our coaches with great care to bring not
only the best teachers of the game but the best teachers and
coaches of people as well. Our coaches
at Nutmeg Lacrosse will provide a positive approach to the
game of lacrosse, concentrating on stick skill development,
position specific drills and team and game concepts. Each
player will be given individualized attention to
increase their chances of success.
We will work on the physical and mental
aspects of the game all the while stressing the
importance of strategy and good sportsmanship.
Our Nutmeg system is based on a developmental
sequence of lacrosse skills developed by Hall of Fame coach
Mike Waldvogel and mentor for many of our coaches. It
identifies and builds sequentially the skills necessary for
success at each age and level. Our program is proud of
the results of its first graduates now moving into varsity
college programs with great success as the end product of
this system of coaching.
In choosing a lacrosse program, shiny uniforms are nice; good
facilities are important, peers of equal skills are
valuable; exciting competition is important, but none of
these are as vital as having coaches who know the game, know
how to teach it and know how to work with young people.
Check out the Nutmeg coaching staff. You'll find no program
can compare with Nutmeg for this key ingredient of
successful athletes.
