Skakandi
Head
Lacrosse
Coach
|
|
Danielle Skakandi grew up on Long Island and played her high school lacrosse at perennial powerhouse Farmingdale where she was named a high school All American. She moved on to play her college lacrosse at Division I Hofstra University where "her knowledge of the game and presence" made her the anchor of the team's defense. Her career at Hofstra was capped when she was named captain of the team.
After graduation she returned to her alma mater as Assistant Coach of the Women's Lacrosse team. This past year she became coach of the Women's Lacrosse team at Cold Spring High School, a Director of Aero Lax Camp and a Director of the Long Island Yellow Jackets. |

Kim Hillier
Hillier, a standout player at Farmingdale HS, scored 61 goals and added 48 assists last season in earning All-Long Island honors and tallied 63 goals this season. She started four years, three times earning All-Nassau County honors. Hillier was named as one of the two "best players I've ever coached," according to Tracy Wiener, Farmingdale's coach the past 13 years. She was name to the All Long Island Girls Lacrosse Team in 2003.
She went on to star at Hofstra where she was achieved All American honors and finished as the second all time point scorer in Hofstra history with 208 points. She was also name to the All Mid-Atlantic Regional Team in her senior year. She has just been named to the United States Developmental Women's Lacrosse Team. |

Becky Thorn
When Hofstra midfielder Becky Thorn scored the 100th goal of her women’s lacrosse career in a come-from-behind 11-9 win over
Delaware this spring she became only the seventh player in the history of the program to reach that milestone all the more remarkable since she has another year to play. Only a junior, Thorn is already one of the most prolific goal scorers in school history. In her Freshman year, Thorn was named the Player of the Week by the Colonial Athletic Association, Inside Lacrosse, and WomensLacrosse.com .
She was a highly sought after recruit from Sachem High School on Long Island, where she scored 191 goals in her career, and chose Hofstra over Maryland, Syracuse and Loyola. Thorn also set a school record for a freshman with 38 goals (which also tied for eighth all time among all Hofstra players). “Thorn followed up her impressive rookie campaign with 34 goals as a sophomore last year, and is on pace to end the regular season this spring with 42. After a year off due to injury she returned to serve at team captain, and was named to the All American team.
"The biggest change in Becky is her leadership -- she calms everyone down," Morgan said. "The younger girls call her grandma because she's the oldest, but she has a lot of wisdom. She's been through a lot of different situations." Thorn's maturity might be the single biggest reason that Hofstra is playing in its second NCAA Tournament game. The Pride came up short in the past two CAA championships before exorcizing its demons this season -- largely because Thorn took over the game.
