The history of Nutmeg started in 1998 at
Walter
Derynoski
Elementary
School,on
a Sunday afternoon in Sept and we had 15 boys show up that year it was
Andy Towers now assistant coach at Dartmouth and Darryl Delia then at
Yale University
The next year we had about 50 boys show
up and then the following year we had 100 boys on the field. After
that we started the girls program and that took place at
Derynoski
Schools.
In 2004 we elected to go state wide and
we just exploded into 700 kids signed up.
In 2006 The Hurricanes were born and
exploded onto the regional scene with an astounding tournament
record of 19-3 int he inaugural year.
No picture of Nutmeg history would be complete
without reference to the alumni and Nutmeg players have gone on to
play at just about all the major DI programs. The cadre of Nutmeg
coaches is a virtual "who's who" of college coaches and is in great
measure responsible for the dramatic growth in the program.
We continue to upgrade the program and continue to raise the bar of
competition with our focus on coaching and development of the
complete player.
